Theeram Origin

The word “Theeram” in Malayalam means “shore”, a metaphor of hope and tranquillity. The disabled community are confronting daily discrimination from many in the form of pessimistic attitudes, because of the failure in the implementation of governmental policies and due to lack of financial aids. Theeram, as the name suggests,intends to erect an abode of hope and solace for those people who have lost their path amidst the roaring waves on the sea of life. Theeram charitable trust is a pioneering charitable organization which is rooted in Charummoodu, Alappuzhadist. of Kerala, India and spread its shade all over Kerala to support those who have lost the hope of a better living.

Theeram was not just started spontaneously by service instilled young minds, but it was made legal and transparent. It is registered under form 1955, 12th of Thiruvitankur-Kochi, Sahitya-Shastreeya-dharmasangadanakal registrar Act(ALP/TC/575/2017) and also it is affiliated to Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK/ALPY/KL-01) and Kerala State Youth Welfare Board Affiliation (ALP0417692).

As the name suggests, Theeram has literally been a shore for the needy and suffering people. Theeram sprouted on the shore of Alappuzha beach on 3rdDec 2017 and from there onwards it was its unstoppable journey with the motto “Destined to Serve”. Since it was the day for differently abled people on Dec3rd, Theeram incepted its voyage by giving wheelchair to three disabled persons.  The occasion was dignified with the presence of Dr.Punaloor Somarajan( the renowned philanthropist, Director of Gandhibhavan, Pathanapuram) , Sri. T.P Madhavan (well-known Indian film actor) and many more compassionate minds.

The main services of Theeram includes monthly pension distribution for old age, disabled and students with no financial support, medical aid, blood donation, flood relief services, wheel chair distribution, school kit distribution etc. The flood relief services that Theeram provided was remarkable and it was ensured the most deserved is served through Alappuzha District Collector Hon. Mr. S Suhas I.A.S . Theeram was actually a shore to those who lost everything during flood in August 2018. Within a short span time , Theeram could leave footprints in the society because of its ancestral organisation Al-Amanath Charitable Federation, Charummoodu.

Al-Amanath Charitable Federation, Charummoodu was started on 6th of April 2013. Since the services provided were appealing and legal procedures and accounting documentation were done properly, Al-Amanath could establish its own place in the society as well as in the minds of public. It gained momentum rapidly due to the support from public.

Within five years, Al-Amanath Charitable Federation could make a record of giving more than 14 lakhs including medical support, pension distribution, wheelchair donation, education sponsorship for mentally challenged children etc. As an impact of these activities, these a raised an opinion of starting a shelter home for the people who are left alone in the life and for mentally challenged children. With this innovative essence Al-Amanath was restarted in a brand of new level and was named as Theeram Charitable Trust, Charummoodu.

As a token of acknowledgement, Theeram had been honoured by Mr. Ganesh Kumar (M.L.A, Pathanapuram), Mr. KP Raju (Forest Minister), Mr. Martyn Day ( MP, United Kingdom ) and Mrs. Prathibha Hari (MLA, Kayamkulam).

Theeram has always been a consolation for the poor and needy and continues its journey wiping tears of many people who are left alone even by their family members. With the help of many generous minds, Theeram spreads goodness with the motto “ Destined to Serve ‘’.

Theeram is a charitable organization, underpinned in the humanitarian ideals of compassion, benevolence and mutual concern. Theeram is registered under the 1955, 12th Thiruvitankur-Kochi, Sahitya-shastreeya-dharmasangadanakal registrar Act and has got the registration number: ALP/TC/575/2017 and also it is affiliated to Nehru Yuva Kendra NYK/ALPY/KL-01, Kerala State Youth Welfare Board Affiliation ALPO 417692. Our selfless and impartial aspiration for lending hands to those who deserve help and assistance in society, is encapsulated in its motto: “Destined to Serve”. Theeram is, indeed, an ensemble of generous donors, dedicated volunteers and supporters who share a mission of serving the most marginalized and excluded groups in society; like, the physically and mentally challenged persons, abandoned children, bedridden patients and other forsaken people.

At present, Theeram is actively indulging in various social welfare programmes in Kerala especially in the districts Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Kollam. Irrespective of the boundaries of caste, race, or political opinions, we engage in different social development activities that can foster protection of life and elimination of human suffering.

On the eve of International Day of Disabled Persons, December 3rd, 2017, Theeram announced its inauguration at Alappuzha which was witnessed by hundreds from the public. By distributing wheelchairs to the physically challenged persons, the chief guests: Dr Punalur Somarajan(the renowned philanthropist, Director of Gandhibhavan, Pathanapuram), and T.P Madhavan (well-known Indian film actor), inaugurated the event.

We are so overwhelmed by receiving appreciation and recognition from the government officials and other notable personalities like the honourable Minister of Forests, Shri. K Raju, Shri. KB Ganesh Kumar MLA, Shrimati. Prathiba Hari MLA, Dr.Punalur Somarajan (the renowned philanthropist, Director of Gandhibhavan, Pathanapuram) , TP Madhavan (well-known Indian film actor), and Mr. Martyn Day (MP, United Kingdom).

Within a very short span of time, Theeram has made indelible influences in the domains of charity and social welfare in Kerala. We feel extremely proud to say that we turned our unabating compassion towards humanity into meaningful philanthropic activities.
